Have you been to a Tweetup / Meetup before?  If not, this is a GREAT way to meet some of your neighbors, your Alderman and your Neighborhood Improvement Specialist. We have a great time munching on appetizers, having a couple of drinks and chatting with everyone. There are always lots of laughs and a lot of fun!

A Tweetup is just another name for a happy hour and we organize them at a different place every month in order to support our local restaurants and give you the ideal opportunity to try out a restaurant you may not have been to before.

Royal Banks of Missouri is collecting non-perishable food items for a food drive benefitting Carondelet Community Betterment Foundation (CCBF) St. Joseph Food Pantry. Alderman Vaccaro has asked that we support this venture, so please bring any non-perishable items to Tweetup and we will forward it to this program. The program runs through April 15th.

Come and join us!  You’ll have a great time!  If you have any questions, please email tweetup@lindenwoodpark.org.

Dear Residents of the 23rd Ward:

Today, I see a St. Louis that has an opportunity to turn the page and embark on a journey that will take us beyond division and distrust and into an era of greater understanding and collaboration. It will be in that spirit of togetherness that we overcome our shared challenges and take advantage of the unique opportunities our city holds, jumpstarting the economic, social and moral rebound we’ve all been anxiously awaiting.

With a passion for public service and a commitment to fighting for a safer, stronger, more unified St. Louis, I’m asking for your vote on Tuesday, March 3rd . Working together, nothing is impossible!

Identify fraud is a big concern

Ward 23 Website

Residents,

I pulled this off the KMOV web page. After seeing several of these on our crime reports over the last several weeks I think we all need to be aware.

P.O. Vince Stehlin

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (KMOV.com) — Identify fraud is a big concern when it comes to filing taxes, and for good reason. More cases of IRS identity theft are popping up across the region.

“It’s one of those things you hear about, but you never think it’s going to happen to you,” said Lori Sommer, a victim of identity theft.

When Lori Sommer tried to file her taxes a few weeks ago she received a concerning response.

“Right away I got an email back that it was rejected due to someone else filing a tax return using my social security number,” Sommer said.  She is one of 33 victims in Maryland Heights alone.

Det. Sean Fanning with the Maryland Heights Police Department receives several reports a day.

“The numbers are higher than they were last year and I suspect that it’s going to get worse before it gets better,” Fanning said.

The Creve Coeur Police Department is also dealing with a large amount of tax fraud. It has people wondering what they can do to protect themselves.

“I mean we’ve done everything right and it still happened and it could happen to anyone,” said Sommer.

“Many of these victims, they didn’t do anything wrong. It’s the hacks, it’s the breaches, those folks are getting better,” Fanning added.

These scams won’t likely end with tax season, so police urge everyone to remain on guard.

If you are a victim, contact police. They will have you fill out an Identity Theft Affidavit.

Here are a few tips to avoid tax identity theft:

  • Mail tax returns as early in the tax season as possible before the cons beat you to it
  • Don’t give out personal information unless you know who’s asking for it and why they need it
  • Shred personal and financial documents
